06-04-10. Dinner @ Five Guys.

We go to Five Guys about once a week. The food and service have been great every single time. We're always very satisfied when we leave. Harold always gets only ketchup on his cheeseburger. I always put vinegar on my fries. Afterwards, we went to GameStop and Trader Joe's.

How is "dumping" art? We all do it all the time.

So, dumping (as in dump.fm) is sort of like FriendFeed or something without the descriptions and comments. Just pictures. Some artists seems to think that this is the next wave in art, just "talking" online with weird pictures that they've found and/or manipulated in some way. I "dump" with words all the time, but that's not really where the art is...
It's like this http://dump.fm/u/unicorngirl People are saying that it's new 4chan. I don't really get it. It's not all that revolutionary to me. Surf club? *shrug* How is it art? It doesn't have to be purchasable to be art necessarily, but it does have to be at least a little bit worthwhile. So they're a bunch of weird images. Big deal. I see those all the time. Sometimes I post them.

06-03-10. Swindle.

Swindle, a Decepticon that transforms into an FMC XR311 (Hummer-like thing) and combines with other robots to form Bruticus. There is way too much shit in his Wikipedia article. The artists who came up with these things must have had a rule: when in doubt, add some more angles and lines. That'll make it look cooler. I'd never tried drawing one before. They're part of my visual vocabulary, just like flowers.

Get a Venus flytrap at the IMA. I wonder if I could keep one alive?

06-01-10. "Aristotle" (1637) by Jusepe de Ribera. Drawn at the IMA.

This is a little different from what I usually do. I drew this sketch while I was standing in front of the nearly 400-year-old painting at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

Some kind of citrus fruit is growing in Indiana. I'll have to find out what it is next time.

Vintage Vespa in the Indianapolis Museum of Art parking garage.

Painting 009. Tractor and Mansion, Carmel, Indiana.

This painting is available for purchase now on Etsy.

This is a typical suburban scene in Carmel, which is just north of Indianapolis. Farmlands are dotted with McMansions. This particular mansion looks like it's been here for a longer time than most of the houses here.

Testing photo to Twitter.

05-27-10. Copy of Aubrey Beardsley illustration, "Bathyllus' Swan Dance".

This character is male. Beardsley deliberately gave him a feminine appearance. Beardsley died of tuberculosis when he was 25. To me, that explains some of the qualities of his work. Sometimes his illustrations remind me of the naughty but elaborately detailed and stylized drawings that some of my classmates drew in high school and college. He was very, very good at what he did, though.
